As we reported earlier, an armed gunman took to the streets of Lewiston, Maine, Wednesday evening and opened fire in at least three locations. Tragically, reports are now coming out that there are multiple casualties, with Fox News writing that there are 22 dead while ABC News is reporting 16.

Police have released a photo of a vehicle that they believe may have been used by the shooter:

Lewiston is about 36 miles north of Portland and is the state’s second-largest city. Residents have been told to shelter in place and lock their doors, as the gunman has still not been located. The Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office released a photo of the suspect:

CNN is reporting that the shooter used an AR-style rifle and that there are 16 dead and dozens injured:

“Maine State Police are ordering people in the state’s second-largest city to shelter in place,” the above tweet continued.

Although the local hospital did not provide an exact number of casualties, it’s clear that they’re dealing with a tragic situation

A local hospital, the Central Maine Medical Center, said that they are reacting to a “mass casualty, mass shooter event.”

As of 9 p.m., the hospital said that they cannot share the specifics on the number of casualties.

“Central Maine Healthcare is coordinating with area hospitals to take in patients,” the hospital said.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) in Boston said in a social media post that they are helping with the response, and the FBI has also offered their assistance. President Joe Biden has been briefed on the situation.

Lewiston Mayor Carl Sheline said he is “heartbroken for our city and our people.”

As of now, the suspect is still on the loose and no motive has been established. We will keep you updated on this tragic situation.
