Pritzker has tough words for Illinois law enforcement – Bearing Arms

With the signing of the assault weapon ban in Illinois, some who don’t really follow politics might just think the fight is over. those with a bit more savvy will recognize that there are bound to be some court battles coming, but most of the fight is now in the past.

Both groups are very wrong.

As reported here at Bearing Arms, a lot of law enforcement has said they won’t enforce such a ban.

Yet for Gov. J.B. Pritzker, that’s not a big deal. He simply says that they’ll enforce the law or be out of a job.

With a new ban on certain guns now in place in Illinois, some have said they won’t comply. Gov. J.B. Pritzker has a message for law enforcement: Do your job or else. Gun-rights groups say the ban won’t last long.

With counties across the state saying they won’t enforce a gun ban, or are Second Amendment sanctuaries, and some publicly saying they won’t comply with a looming registry, Pritzker said Illinois State Police will be responsible for enforcement.

“As are all law enforcement all across our state and they will in fact do their job or they won’t be in their job,” Pritzker said.

Pretty harsh words. Especially since Pritzker isn’t saying the same thing about the immigration sanctuary cities in his state.

See, I can make a far better case for ignoring unconstitutional laws like the new assault weapon ban in Illinois than for ignoring federal law on something like immigration, which the feds do actually have the authority to regulate.

Then there’s the fact that law enforcement has always had a certain degree of discretion when it comes to enforcing laws. That’s why one person gets a verbal warning for speeding but someone else gets a ticket, just as an example.

So it might be a tad difficult to know who is doing what with regard to enforcement.

But can Pritzker remove sheriffs at all? Well, it looks like he can. According to the Illinois Constitution, the governor can “remove for incompetence, neglect of duty, or malfeasance in office any officer who may be appointed by the Governor.”

Now, Pritzker’s argument will be that these law enforcement officers are neglecting their duty. That will lead to still more court cases, though, because they’ll correctly argue that their oath requires them to support and defend the Constitution and that the Constitution supersedes state law.

Which will just lead to more fights, to say the least.

The truth is, though, Pritzker is a colossal hypocrite. He’s never said boo about immigration sanctuaries. He allows those to exist in Illinois and acts oblivious to their existence. They’re not thumbing their nose at him, though, and that’s where the difference lies. So long as he agrees, you can ignore whatever laws you want. Just don’t ignore the laws he likes.

And then there’s the fact that he’s ignoring that these so-called assault weapons have nothing to do with why Chicago is an absolute hellhole.

The AR-15 isn’t being used in the rough parts of the Windy City. They’re using illegally-obtained handguns.

“But the magazine restrictions-”

These guys will go out of state to get straw buyers to pick up guns for them. Do you really think that they won’t get magazines while they’re there? Can you really expect that they won’t buy those online and have them shipped to people in other states without the regulation?

This law accomplished nothing except to make things more difficult for good, decent, law-abiding folks. It puts them at a tactical disadvantage should they face an armed attacker because guess who doesn’t have round restrictions.

If Pritzker wants to go down this road, I suspect he’s not going to like what he finds.
