Two Burglars Broke Into Armed Citizen’s Home. Only One Came Out Alive. – RedState

A homeowner in Granada Hills, California, is still alive after confronting multiple home intruders with a firearm. The incident, which was reported by several different news outlets, is yet another example demonstrating why gun ownership is important – especially in a state with very strict restrictions on firearms.

The incident occurred early on Saturday morning.

A Granada Hills homeowner shot and killed one of two intruders during an early-morning home invasion Saturday, authorities said.

Officers responded about 5 a.m. to a report of a hot prowler in the 11400 block of Swinton Avenue, near Rinaldi Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

One suspect was pronounced dead at the scene after being shot by the resident, the LAPD said. The other intruder fled and remained at large.

Police said the suspect pointed a weapon at the victim when the homeowner shot at them. Investigators believe another suspect was injured.

“There was a blood trail that trailed from the residence,” said LAPD Deputy Chief Alan Hamilton. “We trailed it to the end but we believe there was at least one or two additional suspects involved in this burglary that left this scene.”

The authorities noted that the homeowner’s grandmother and toddler were present during the home invasion. The suspects intended to burglarize the home and pointed a firearm at the homeowner, who quickly produced his firearm and managed to kill one of the intruders and wound the other. The other suspect has not yet been found by law enforcement.

Needless to say, with an elderly person and toddler in the home, the actions of the armed citizen were warranted. The situation could have had a much more tragic outcome if the homeowner had not been armed. It is a clear example showing why gun ownership is essential, despite the protestations of the anti-gunner lobby, which seeks to make it much more difficult for responsible Americans to keep and bear arms.

Reactions from the local community were supportive, especially amid heightened crime rates in the neighborhood.

Some neighbors told KTLA they’re concerned about the incident, but are not surprised.

“We’ve been having burglaries every day in this neighborhood,” said Pat Walsh, a resident. “So I’m not surprised at all. It’s been a real problem. Residents here are fed up.”

Other neighbors, although concerned, were glad the victims were not harmed or killed.

“The suspects messed with the wrong homeowner,” said a neighbor, who did not wish to be identified. “So hopefully this will stop them. It makes me feel good that people are able to protect their homes and stop these guys.”

The home invasion in Granada Hills serves as another argument against the gun control crowd, which insists that gun ownership among responsible Americans is more dangerous than leaving law-abiding folks vulnerable to those who care nothing for gun laws.

If the anti-gunners had their druthers, this homeowner and his family could have been in even worse danger. The fact of the matter is that people with the means to protect themselves are far safer than those without the ability to fight back against bad actors.
