Civil Rights Group Suing Trump for Inciting Violence Against Chinese Americans – RedState

In yet another waste of taxpayer money, a civil rights group has filed a lawsuit against former President Donald Trump for his characterization of the COVID-19 pandemic. You probably already know where this is going, right?

The Chinese Americans Civil Rights Coalition (CACRC) filed a federal complaint accusing Trump of harming the Chinese American community and encouraging violence against Chinese Americans by referring to COVID-19 as the “China virus.” TMZ, of all publications, reported: “According to the lawsuit, obtained by TMZ, the CACRC claims Trump’s use of the derogatory terms contributed to the recent rise in violence against Chinese and Asian Americans … and they claim he should have known better.”

The suit alleges that the former president should not have referenced China when referring to the virus because “it’s not entirely clear where the virus actually originated,” according to TMZ.

But wait — it gets better.

The CACRC’s lawsuit claims Trump is guilty of defamation and infliction of emotional distress and is demanding he pay $22.9 million, or $1 for every Asian American and Pacific Islander residing in the United States. The group claims they will use the money to build a museum showcasing the contributions of AAPI to the U.S.

Trump began referencing the origin of the coronavirus shortly after the outbreak last year. He has also called it the “Wuhan virus,” and “Kung flu.” Others on the right also pointed to China’s role in the pandemic as well.

High-profile leftists were predictably upset by the notion that one would accurately claim the virus originated in China, claiming that it was an example of — you guessed it — racism. They argued that acknowledging that the virus came from China was the reason why the spike in anti-Asian hate crimes occurred.

The suit states that the former president’s “extreme and outrageous conduct was carried out throughout the pandemic with reckless disregard of whether such conduct would cause Chinese Americans to suffer emotional distress.”

The Chinese Foreign Ministry echoed the Democrats’ claims and complained that Trump had “smeared China.”

“We call on the U.S. to stop finger-pointing at China. The utmost priority is for the international community to cooperate on fighting the virus,” spokesman Geng Shuang told reporters. “The U.S. should focus on its top priority, and play a constructive role in international cooperation on health security.”

Jason Miller, senior adviser for Trump, pushed back against the organization’s claims. “This is an insane and idiotic lawsuit that is specious at best, and it will be dismissed if it ever sees a courtroom,” he told The Hill.

He added, “It’s a complete joke, and if I was the lawyer that brought it I’d be worried about getting sanctioned.”

The plaintiffs contend that Trump knew the origin of the coronavirus was supposedly not firmly established when he claimed it came from China.

“The truth matters, words have consequences… especially from those in powerful and influential positions,” the complaint argued. “[Trump] intentionally repeated those defamatory words to serve his own personal and political interest with astonishing level of actual malice and negligence, hence severely injuring the Chinese/Asian Americans communities in the process.”

We can probably chalk this one up as another frivolous lawsuit that will not achieve its intended goal. Despite the claims of Democrats and members of the activist media, there is no evidence tying Trump’s words to the violence against Asians.

In fact, the reality that most of the perpetrators in these cases are black and Latino further demonstrates that leftists are full of bovine excrement as these individuals are not likely to be fans of the former president. Unfortunately, for the left, rationality rarely stands in the way when they are targeting a conservative.
