In an Effort to Encourage Mammograms, Los Angeles Will Arrest Felons Using Pink Handcuffs – RedState

In an Effort to Encourage Mammograms, Los Angeles Will Arrest Felons Using Pink Handcuffs – RedState

In order to bring attention to the cause, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department will be paying tribute to breast cancer research — every time they arrest someone.

This, according to a Thursday tweet by Sheriff Alex Villanueva.

They’ll also, it seems, be making hardened criminals look like girly men.

The method of choice: pink handcuffs.

“Pink badges & pink handcuffs, all meant to grab your attention as we raise awareness and pray for a cure to end Breast Cancer!”

“Because of COVID,” Alex explains, “many women have put off mammograms and other cancer screenings.”

Subsequently, the sheriff goes on to say, “Doctors now say they see an alarming rise in severe cases of breast cancer.”

The department has therefore contributed a kingly amount of cash to a medical center in Pomona:

“At the Pomona Breast Health Center @pvhmc, we donated over ten thousand dollars to their cancer research.”

Alex wraps with, “Please, get your checkups! Don’t be afraid. Early detection is key!!”

It’s not the first time law enforcement’s gotten creative with an arresting topic.

Concerning another commemoration that’s been known to involve pastel shackles — Valentine’s Day — in February, a North Carolina sheriff issued a particularly amorous invitation.

From the frisky Facebook post:

Did you know?

The Nash County Sheriff’s Office is now offering a Valentine’s Day Weekend Special!

Do you have an ex-Valentine and know they have outstanding warrants? Give us a call (252) 459-4121 with their location and we’ll take care of the rest.

This Valentine’s Day Weekend Special starts off with a set of limited-edition platinum bracelets, free transportation with a chauffeur, a one-night minimum stay in our luxurious [5-star] accommodations, and this special is capped off with a special Valentine’s dinner.

We know this special is so incredible that you may be tempted to provide additional referrals. We don’t blame you, this special is too sweet to pass up. Operators are standing by!

Back to Los Angeles, the city isn’t known for its low crime rate.

And it certainly sees a fair share of virulently violent thugs.

Maybe pink handcuffs is a good idea, even aside from our cancerous scourge.

What gang member wants to be pretty (incapacitated) in pink?

Dare I say, a deterrent?

At least, perhaps, it’s amusing.

Either way, thanks to research and testing, great advancements have been made in the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer, particularly when detected early.

And, per Cancer.gov, it’s “one of a few cancers for which an effective screening test…is available.”

One would be hard-pressed to find a family in America that hasn’t been touched by the disease.

Hopefully, in spite of the pandemic, screening will pick up.

In the meantime, for those of you in Southern California, look out for the most savage among you being bested by these:
