GoFundMe Campaign Takes in a Massive Amount for Family of Pakistani Uber Eats Driver Killed by Teenage Girls in DC – RedState

My RedState colleague Nick Arama reported on Saturday the horrific death of an Uber Eats driver who was carjacked by two girls in Washington DC, one 13 and one 15 year old.

The incident happened on Tuesday but a cell phone video taken by bystanders, capturing the entire incident, was released on Saturday.

The two girls have been charged with felony murder in the death of Mohammad Anwar, 66, of Springfield, Virginia.

It’s hard to know the exact context of the events in the video as it begins, but it appears that Mr. Anwar had left his car at some point because when the video starts the two girls can be seen inside the front seats of the vehicle, while Mr. Anwar is standing next to the open driver’s side door and appears to be struggling with the girls seated in the driver’s seat.

The police reported that one of the two girls was armed with a taser which she used on Mr. Anwar before driving off at a high rate of speed with him still holding on with the driver’s side door open.

Early in the video, you can hear a man with what sounds like a Pakistani accent saying “They are thieves,” and then a moment later, “This is my car.”

Seconds later the car speeds away with Mr. Anwar hanging on. The car crosses into the lane for oncoming traffic in order to avoid two cars blocking the path on the road ahead, and when it does so the driver’s side door comes into solid contact with a street lamp post, crushing Mr. Anwar between the car’s driver’s side and the car door as it slams against him.

The car continues speeding down the road without braking at all, before coming to a “T” intersection. While attempting to make a right turn the car struck parked cars and ended up off its wheels, laying across the passenger’s side door. Mr. Anwar was thrown against a wall across a sidewalk about 10 yards from where the car came to rest.

Like I said, this happened on Tuesday, but the video surfaced on Twitter on Saturday.

As was noted in Nick’s article, CNN’s website — while reporting that the two girls had been charged with “felony murder” in connection with Mr. Anwar’s death — described Mr. Anwar’s death as having come about as a result of an “accident.”

The description in CNN’s article was a point of some consternation. But even late on Saturday night as I am writing this, the story up on CNN’s website continues to read as follows:

The girls, 13 and 15, assaulted Anwar with a Taser while carjacking him, which led to an accident in which he was fatally injured, police said.

What motivates an author to write that? What motivates an editor to let it be published written that way?  There is nothing in the video that was “accidental.” The entire episode from start to finish was deliberate and intentional — including the moment one of the girls decided to press on the accelerator while Mr. Anwar was holding onto his car along the driver side door while she sped away.

The author or editor should have completed the fact that written in the very next sentence was that the two girls were charged with felony murder and armed carjacking.

Charged with murder in connection with an “accident.”

Adults can’t be that stupid, so the mischaracterization was plainly intentional.

Amazingly, the GoFundMe campaign set up for Mr. Anwar’s family has had a tremendous response. The site was begun three days ago and had a goal of $100,000. When I first noted it earlier in the day, I believe it was in the range of $200,000 having been raised. At the time I am writing this, the amount raised now exceeds $315,000.

Rest in peace, Mr. Anwar.
