RFK Jr. to Pick Tech Entrepreneur Shanahan as VP

RFK Jr. to Pick Tech Entrepreneur Shanahan as VP

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is expected to name Nicole Shanahan, the attorney and tech entrepreneur who largely funded his Super Bowl commercial replicating a spot that his uncle John F. Kennedy did in 1960, as his running mate in his long-shot independent bid for the White House, according to a new report.

Kennedy had been considering NFL quarterback Aaron Rodgers or wrestling legend Jesse Ventura as potential running mates.

A source close to the campaign, however, told Mediaite that Rodgers is now out of the running, leaving Shanahan now expected to be named.

Kennedy has said he will officially announce his pick later this month, but a source commented that Kennedy and Shanahan “align on numerous issues.”

Not only that, the source said, but the campaign is “looking for a candidate who can help finance the ballot access initiative.”

“She might be infusing millions of dollars into the campaign to help fund the ballot initiative, which makes her attractive financially,” the source added, while questioning whether Shanahan has the qualifications to “actually do the job.”

A spokesman for the Kennedy campaign didn’t respond for a request for comment. However, a website domain www.kennedyshanahan.com has been registered and a subdomain, pay.kennedyshanahan.com, is also live and accepting donations.

Shanahan, 38, is a tech entrepreneur in the Bay area, who has invested heavily in scientific research in the areas of health and the environment and is a major donor to the Democratic Party, The New York Times reported last month.

Shanahan said during an interview that she gave $4 million to the American Values 2024 super PAC about a week before the Super Bowl to pay toward the Kennedy ad, which PAC officials said cost about $7 million. Further, she coordinated the production of the ad, and commented that she felt the ad spot was a “great opportunity to highlight” that Kennedy is running for president.

She also said she believed that Kennedy is willing to fight the scientific establishment on issues such as vaccines, children’s health, and the environment, issues she also finds to be important.
