Thousands Take to Streets Demanding End to Communism in Cuba: ‘Libertad!’ – RedState

What’s happening today in Cuba is one of those things you rarely get to see in your lifetime, and if you care about freedom, it just thrills the heart.

Thousands of people are marching against the Communist government chanting, “We are not afraid!” in multiple places across the country, including in the capital city of Havana.

From Miami Herald:

From the Malecón, Havana’s famous boardwalk near the old city to small towns in Cienfuegos province and Palma Soriano, the largest city in Santiago de Cuba province, videos live-streamed on Facebook showed thousands of people walking and riding bikes and motorcycles along streets while chanting “Freedom,” “Down with Communism,” and “Homeland and Life,” which has become a battle cry among activists as it turns the revolutionary slogan “Homeland or Death” on its head.

“We are not afraid!” chanted Samantha Regalado while she recorded hundreds of people walking along a narrow street in Palma Soriano.

“From the smallest towns, such as La Salud, Quivican, Mayabeque, to the big cities. Today is the day when hundreds of thousands of Cubans shout at the dictatorship, No more! #SOSCuba.”

Chanting for “Libertad (Freedom)!” on the Malecon in Havana:

It’s important to understand that they don’t have free internet so a lot of people are risking a lot to get these pictures and videos out to the world to let it know what’s going on.

But there may be a crackdown coming. Reports are the police have been given the order.

“#Urgente#Cuba: The Cuban government called for a crackdown on protesters across Cuba and called on the army and its rapid response groups to crack down. “The combat order is given,” he said.

Miguel Díaz-Canel is now in power in the country, but he’s basically an agent of Raul Castro. But he is the first non-Castro leader in 60 years.

Townhall’s Kurt Schlichter, whose wife was born in Cuba and still has family there, tweeted:

In addition to guns, they’ll need prayer.

Godspeed all these wonderful people! May the people’s power help them find their way to freedom. It worked in 1989; may it work for them now.
