X Issues Brutal Correction To ‘Queer Eye’ Star’s Claim That Trans Athletes Have No Advantage Over Women

Responding to a claim from “Queer Eye” star Jonathan Van Ness, social media platform X has noted that biologically male transgender athletes do, in fact, have an advantage over female competitors.

Van Ness, during an emotional appearance on actor Dax Shepard‘s “Armchair Expert” podcast, said, “The science that we have now says that transgender women do not hold an unfair biological advantage over cis women.”

X then attached an “added context” note to the post: “Research going back decades has demonstrated that males are, on average, considerably stronger and more physically agile than females in most athletics,” the note said. “Transwomen are male, so they have a physical advantage over females in sports.”

X has since updated its “added context” with the following: “There are biological differences between males & females that give males on average greater strength & speed (among other things) than women. We have known about sex differences for the entirety of our history as a species.”

A report issued last year by Dr. Gregory Brown, a professor of exercise science at the University of Nebraska, found that males do have physical advantages over females in athletic competition. In one example, highlighted by the Alliance Defending Freedom, males, though they have a greater body weight, on average have a 15-20% jumping advantage over women. One study found that the average male volleyball player jumped 50% higher in a vertical “attack” toward the net than female players. Notably, the report also found males to have athletic advantages even after testosterone suppression.

Van Ness became emotional during the podcast, specifically when the activist and Shepard discussed gender transitions for minors.

“Some people are very uncomfortable about teenagers transitioning. They’re challenging that. How do we know that the person’s not gonna change their mind?” Shepard said, as reported by The Daily Wire. “This whole notion that to be critical… or to question even question it makes you an enemy. I don’t think that’s the way forward.”

“I feel like I’m talking to my dad,” Van Ness told Shepard. “All I’m saying is what we know about misinformation and disinformation is when you have an outsized reaction to something, there’s a good chance that you’re being exposed to misinformation and disinformation. And a lot of the rhetoric around the anti-trans backlash does have a lot of misinformation and disinformation in it.”

Before shedding tears, Van Ness seemed to attack Shepard for even being open to questions on the trans issue. “I’m not calling you a transphobe,” he said. “You can not be transphobic and still have thoughts that espouse trans misogyny and espouse transphobic ideologies and beliefs.”

“I wish that people were as passionate about little kids being able to be included or grow up as they were about fictitious women’s fairness in sports. I have to tell you I am very tired,” Van Ness complained.
