Emails Talk About Gun Arrests On Morning Of Capital “Insurrection” – Bearing Arms

January 6, 2021, is one of those days many of us will remember quite well for years to come. That, of course, is the day of the so-called Capital Insurrection. Of course, the only guns we saw in the Capital that day were in the hands of police and the only person shot was one of the protestors, making it the worst insurrection in history, but still…

Regardless, there was reason to be concerned. While the riot wasn’t even a good riot–and let’s be honest, those guys had all summer to learn how to really riot–those who stormed the Capital really shouldn’t have.

However, some emails suggest that while there didn’t seem to be guns during the so-called insurrection, there might have been.

Newly published messages exchanged by police early on Jan. 6 show that authorities had detained several people for possessing firearms hours before the U.S. Capitol was breached by rioters.

D.C. police reported “approximately 10 arrests ranging from simple assault to weapons possession” in the District as of 9:35 a.m. on Jan. 6, Washington TV station WRC, channel 4, reported this week, eight months later.

Correspondence obtained by the NBC affiliate outlet under the Freedom of Information Act indicates authorities continued to deal with instances of armed or potentially armed individuals as the day progressed.

One of the messages, sent by a U.S. Park Police official as former President Trump was apparently speaking, said a person with a rifle had been detained near the World War II Memorial on the National Mall.

Reached by the NBC station, a spokesperson for the U.S. Park Police said a 24-year-old was arrested for possessing the rifle and charged with having an unregistered firearm, the outlet reported.

That same email sent as Mr. Trump spoke also said that undercover officials were monitoring another person in a tree on 16th Street Northwest near the White House “possibly armed with a handgun on waist.”

Now, I understand why someone would show up armed.

Protests may well draw counter-protesters. This is all fine and good as free speech applies to everyone. However, if we’ve learned nothing over the last couple of years, it’s that there are plenty on the left who see no issue with turning violent against those on the right.

Bringing a gun makes sense.

Of course, I don’t think it was a good idea simply because of DC’s gun laws, but I get the thinking here.

Over the last eight months, the narrative was all about how armed protestors stormed the Capital and tried to overthrow the government. This information isn’t really going to help there, I’m afraid. However, this is from the emails and the Washington Times isn’t exactly a mouthpiece of the liberal media. I’m inclined to believe that yes, this happened.

But folks, let’s also be realistic here. When you believe the media is going to go after you and your side with everything they can, why would you make it easy for them? Why bring a rifle to a protest in a gun-controlled city like DC? You’re just asking for trouble and you’re just asking to make it easier for the media to paint you and yours as trouble.

Yet there’s a flipside to this. If the police didn’t get all the firearms, then where were they during this so-called insurrection? The only person shot was a protester, as noted previously. I mean, if armed Americans, particularly folks on the political right, are really as dangerous as the left likes to claim, then just why was no one else shot?
