RNC Chair McDaniel Blasts Blaming Trump For Coronavirus Severity

Republican National Committee chair Ronna McDaniel on Sunday called it “disgusting” that President Donald Trump is being blamed for the severity of the coronavirus pandemic in the United States.

In an interview on NBC News’ “Meet The Press,” McDaniel defended both the timeline and effectiveness of Trump’s response to the COVID-19 crisis.

“It’s disgusting to take a crisis in this country and lay it at the feet of the president,” she said, asking why the World Health Organization wasn’t being blamed for its role in the acknowledgement of the crisis.

“This is a president who took decisive action,” she asserted, adding: “He saved lives with his actions.”

When asked about the high death count the virus has caused in the nation, McDaniel also repeated Trump’s insistence that more coronavirus testing in the United States accounts for the high number of cases.

“Well, we have, we do have more testing,” she said, insisting: “We are seeing the mortality rates go down” and that “we are in the right space and moving forward with a vaccine.”

“The Democratic Party is politicizing a crisis when we should be coming together,” she lamented, adding House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., “has called it the Trump virus.”

She also called it “sad” that even wearing face masks has become political.

“I don’t think this is politically dividing at all,” she said. “I wear masks, my kids wear masks, my husband wears a mask … and the president wears a mask too.”
