Sen. Perdue: Dems Still Behind With Absentee Ballot Push

Sen. David Perdue dismissed former Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams’ boast that Democrats have already requested 1.2 million absentee ballots for the upcoming Senate runoff race because “they are behind where they were in the general election.”

“We beat them by 2 points,” the incumbent Georgia Republican, who is squaring off in January against Democrat challenger Jon Ossoff, told Fox News’ “Fox & Friends.” “Today is the first day of early voting. We are encouraging everybody on our side to get out early. Don’t wait until Jan. 5. Get out before Christmas.”

The race is vital for control of the Senate, and Perdue urged voters to not let the Democrat candidates win.

“You just have to read what the Democrats have put in their national platform, and I believe Georgians are going to stand up to that,” said Perdue. “We are not going to let the road to socialism run through the state of Georgia, and if we win Georgia, we absolutely save America.”

He further pointed out that 52.5% of Georgia’s voters rejected Ossoff and Democrat Raphael Warnock, who is running against incumbent GOP Sen. Kelly Loeffler in the runoff election.

Perdue also dismissed polls showing that he is behind Ossoff because the “best poll we have had is the election.”

“They couldn’t get to 48% on the Democratic side,” he said. “We have to remind everybody, we are doing everything we can to plug the holes that we saw emerge in the November election and let me remind the voters. Most Republicans are voting in person. There is a reason why the Democrats are trying to go for more absentee ballots. If you vote in person you have to have a photo ID. In absentee ballots, you don’t.”

Meanwhile, Republicans are working to restore confidence in the election, as many voters believe President Donald Trump was cheated out of a win, said Perdue.

“We are asking to change several things,” he said. “One is how the signatures are verified … we want to go back to the way we used to do it on signature verification is very important.”
