U.S. Shoots Down Iranian Drone Over Red Sea

The USS Carney shot down an Iranian-built drone over the Red Sea this week as U.S. forces throughout the region continue to come under attack from Iran’s terrorist proxies.

“At approximately 1100 (Sanaa time), while in the South Red Sea, the Arleigh-Burke Class Guided Missile Destroyer USS Carney (DDG 64) shot down an Iranian-produced KAS-04 unmanned aerial vehicle launched from Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen,” U.S. Central Command said in a statement. “Although its intentions are not known, the UAV was heading toward the warship.”

“At the time of the shoot down, the USS Carney was escorting the USNS SUPPLY (Oiler) and another U.S. flagged and crewed ship carrying military equipment to the region,” the statement continued. “There were no injuries to U.S. personnel and no damage to U.S. vessels.”

The incident comes as there have been various hijackings, attempted hijackings, and attacks on large cargo and tanker ships in the region.

Iran’s terrorist proxies throughout the region have attacked U.S. forces more than 74 times over the last six weeks, but President Joe Biden has “rejected more aggressive bombing options proposed by the Pentagon” to keep U.S. forces safe to avoid “provoking” Iran, according to the New York Times.

Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) said that the only way to stop the attacks would be to launch a “massive retaliation to make it clear we will not tolerate these attacks on Americans.”
