House Democrats are requesting FBI Director Christopher Wray provide them with a private briefing on white supremacy infiltration of law enforcement, claiming 18 current or former officers have been charged in the Jan. 6 Capitol breach even though none of them have been linked to white supremacy groups.
The number of officers charged in the protest apparently was enough for Democrat members of a House judiciary subcommittee to justify the request in a letter, the Washington Times reported.
Some of those charged were tied to extremist terrorist groups, the Times reported.
FBI officials told the same committee that white supremacy in law enforcement was insignificant.
“The shocking participation of law enforcement personnel in the Jan. 6 domestic terrorism attack against Congress and the Capitol Police means that the Bureau must level with the American public about steps it is taking to combat the infiltration of law enforcement departments by white supremacists,” Rep. Jamie Raskin, D-Md., chairman of the Subcommittee on Civil Rights and Civil Liberties wrote in the letter to Wray.
“The Bureau must have a comprehensive strategy to assess this threat.”
