Schoen Promises Trump Defense ‘Will Be Very Well-Prepared in the Future’

Former President Donald Trump’s attorney, David Schoen, promised that his defense team “will be very well-prepared in the future,” after his fellow attorney, Bruce Castor, received widespread criticism for his opening remarks.

Schoen told Fox News host Sean Hannity on Tuesday, after the first day of Trump’s second impeachment trial, that Castor and his law firm hadn’t been prepared to begin their argument, but said they “seem to be very capable people,” and “they will be very well-prepared in the future and do a great job in the case.”

Trump himself was reportedly unhappy with Castor’s opening remarks, which touched on several topics such as Ancient Greek democracy and only briefly mentioned the Capitol riot at the center of the trial.

“Anyone who listened to President Trump’s legal team saw they were unfocused, they attempted to avoid the issue and they talked about everything but the issue at hand,” Sen. Bill Cassidy, R-La., told reporters.

“I thought the president’s lawyer, the first lawyer, just rambled on and on and on and didn’t really address the constitutional argument,” said Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas.

Hannity told Schoen during his interview that several conservatives had called him while the proceedings were ongoing to say, “Whoa, we need someone harder-hitting here.”

Schoen replied, referring to Castor and his team: “There’s a lot to say, and I know they feel very strongly about fighting against what they are seeing.”
